Before we get too excited, let’s declare for the record that there is a zero percent chance the the Obama administration would ever declare that the Black Lives Matter movement acts as a terrorist organization. A new petition asking for that to happen will only be successful in getting the White House to officially respond and at this point, it’s enough.
It’s unfortunate that the petition itself is poorly worded, but with nearly the required 100,000 signatures already garnered at the time of this article’s posting, it’s what we’ve got. That’s the state of conservatism in America today; we’re settling for what we can get and sacrificing for the sake of expediency. Things will get better. If we didn’t feel that way, we wouldn’t put so much effort into keeping this site vibrant… but I digress.
Not every activist or protester in the Black Lives Matter movement is a terrorist. There are legitimate grievances being made that should be addressed. With those disclaimers aside, the truth is this: there is a sufficient amount of terrorist activities and techniques utilized by members of BLM to justify a response by the White House. Moreover, a large portion of the grievances being made by the group are done with racist motivations rather than for the sake of establishing racial equality.
The Oxford Dictionary defines terrorism as “The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.” This means that terrorism isn’t just about what happened in Dallas or even Orlando. The common techniques used by the group of shutting down roadways or intimidating people entering venues are acts of terrorism even if they’re milder than direct violence. I’m not going to make an incident-by-incident argument to prove that they should be classified as a terrorist organization. Either you see it or you don’t.
If you do see it, sign the petition. It doesn’t matter if it has already reached the 100,000 signature threshold by the time you get there. Sign it anyway. Let’s push this well over the mark. The more signatures it gets by August 5th, the more attention it can receive. With the left in control of mainstream media, we’re going to have to do more than raise an alarm bell on this important issue. We need that bell to ring loudly and constantly.
This is an issue that will be positioned by the White House as racism against minorities and a need for more gun control. By signing the petition, we’re letting them know that we see things differently.
