On the surface, this should be a no-brainer for us. John “Gang of 8” McCain is one of the least conservative Republicans in the Senate. His primary opponent, Kelli Ward, received an Award for Conservative Excellence from the American Conservative Union by tying for highest conservative score in the Arizona Senate at 95%.
Unfortunately, we have to dig deeper. If we relied on scores and rumors, we wouldn’t be doing our job. Here are some basic facts:
- Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
- Served in the State Senate since 2013 before resigning to focus on her campaign
She’s received an uncanny number of endorsements for someone running against an incumbent who 8-years-ago was the GOP nominee for President, most notably from Mark Levin, Ron Paul, and Jim Bridenstone.
All of this is great, right? There’s a problem. She’s allegedly supportive of Donald Trump and has been linked to Trump’s strangest supporter: Roger Stone.
Moreover, as RedState’s Leon Wolf pointed out yesterday, her campaign has been strange. It’s been one of the ugliest primaries this season with both sides getting as dirty as possible.
We read, listened to, and watched everything we could about her. At the end, we came to a conclusion. Our reservations are rumors while the positives are tangible. McCain really does need to be retired. Here’s one good reason from Politistick. Despite having a position of respect and power in the Senate, he’s always had a major problem with conservatives. His war of words with Ted Cruz were staining during the Presidential primaries and he’s been ineffective as a Senator.
She’s not quite a longshot, but winning won’t be easy. Most polls have her losing, some by double digits. That’s why we’re posting an article about her despite having a nationwide focus. This particular election is that important. Of course, if she loses, we’d welcome her to a new conservative party.
We don’t like voting against anyone but rather for someone, particularly if we’re going to endorse. The combination of her brief record, strong endorsements, and stated policy platforms wipe away any doubts. America needs Kelli Ward.
