The weather in southern California is amazing. I always have to remind myself of that when I consider all of the negatives associated with living in this liberal paradise. It’s going to be particularly difficult on election day when my choices are Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, or Gloria Estela La Riva. If you have a hard time finding how I’ll be able to “vote my conscience,” I know exactly how you feel. To vote for any of them, I’d have to bury my conscience in the desert for a few days just to build up enough gall to vote at all.
I’m not alone. Millions of Americans live in states where they don’t have a valid option. Even for those of us who have dismissed the “binary choice” argument, it’s hard to find a single person worthy of a write in. Neither the Constitution Party nor America’s Party were able to get the 55 electors necessary to be acceptable write-in votes. This is just another reason we’re forming a new party. Infrastructure and planning are keys.
Over the past three days, I’ve spoken to the Darrell Castle campaign, Evan McMullin campaign, and Tom Hoefling campaign. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that any of them would be far superior to the major party options available to us right now. While I’m not endorsing any of them at this time, I can tell you that a vote for any of them is better than a vote for Trump, Hillary, or Johnson.
You don’t have to take my word for it. In fact, there’s a better explanation over at a new site, FaithTrumpsFear. These folks have done a fine job at laying out a brief but powerful case for voting outside of the “binary choice” we have before us today. Moreover, they allow you to check which candidates are available in your state as well as see a percentage of how 3rd party voters visiting the site are planning on voting. Barring an act of God (which one should never dismiss), none of these candidates will win. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t vote for one. In fact, you absolutely should.
