Server troubles and all that

For the last few days, The New Americana experienced some site troubles, that increased in frequency and severity as time passed. We were aware of slow page loading, and occasional periods of non-responsiveness or error messages.

But before we could track down the source of the problem, our hosting provider made it easier for us to prioritize our efforts. They shut down the site due to excessive CPU load. That kind of forced us to address the issue right then.

They shut it down for about 20 minutes on Wednesday but no reason was recorded in their system admin logs, so customer service simply released the hold and we went another day with increasing problems. Then today they shut it down again and spent a lot of time on the phone with us walking through possible sources and solutions.

It didn’t help that they believed my workstation was a nefarious hacker and blocked my IP address, but we also solved that.

The result is that we’ve tracked down and killed some of the worst offenders that we believe were causing the problem. We also trimmed the number of graphics images on the home page and decreased load times while we were at it.

Time will tell whether we’ve made enough changes to completely prevent any further occurrences, but we’re hopeful this did the trick.

Believe me, I’d rather be working on content than dealing with technical issues, but a site that won’t load or stay up isn’t going to help anyone.

Thank you for your patience, and if you know anyone who has given up due to these problems, please invite them back.

We’ve got nearly 20 writers lined up to provide important analysis and news, as well as our stories from around the Internet. We are building the finest political news aggregation and commentary outlet in America. Having every liberty-minded conservative want to make The New Americana your home page–that’s my goal.

If you believe in this goal, will you share your time and treasure with us? Contribute to our GoFundMe campaign–that will help to buy better hosting, technology, and features. Unlike the two major political parties, we won’t waste your money on mailers and advertising. It will be put to good use.

  1. Would it be possible to put the word out for an IT volunteer? There has to be someone who could assist or take command of tech for building infrastructure, maintaining, and security. A dedicated page for multiple ways to donate would be helpful. I know that’s asking alot, but adding a PayPal button is fairly easy to do these days.

    Anyways, I know you’re busier than a
“one armed paper hanger” but, delegating responsibilities would help everyone concerned.
